First identify which Grok or Codex reset you mean

Grok and Codex do not share a usage account. On Grok’s website and mobile apps, xAI documents one weekly pool for paid plans, with usage split across products such as Chat, Imagine, Voice and Build. The signed-in Usage tab shows the schedule for that account. Free Chat and Voice limits sit outside that paid pool and have their own schedules.

Codex has a different map. Depending on the plan or workspace, Work and Codex can share an allowance with a five-hour window, a weekly window, or both. Settings → Usage displays the account’s reset times; the Codex CLI can show status with /status. Refreshing one provider does not replenish the other.

Paid Grok has a shared weekly pool, while free Chat and Voice are separate; Codex can have five-hour and weekly windows
Read the product label and the timer together. A weekly word alone does not tell you which account or pool is waiting.

How does a Grok usage reset work?

xAI’s current Grok website and app FAQ describes a shared weekly pool for paid users instead of independent daily allowances for each product. You can spend that pool across Grok products. A chat, a long coding task and a high-compute image or video request do not necessarily use equal amounts, so the product breakdown matters when one feature seems to run out sooner.

Open Grok’s Settings → Usage. The page reports the current usage percentage, product breakdown, weekly reset date and time, and any Extra Usage Credits balance. The account page is the place to read your actual schedule: the public help page does not give one universal reset hour for every subscriber.

To make a later check comparable, note the account, the meter label, the displayed percentage, and the reset date shown in Settings → Usage. Its product breakdown lets you record which feature used the shared paid pool most; this is a snapshot for your account, not a forecast for another subscriber.

There are at least two meters to distinguish. When the paid weekly pool is exhausted, paid features can pause, while free-tier Chat and Voice remain subject to their own limits and schedules. Extra Usage Credits are a separate balance that can continue supported paid use after included weekly usage runs out; buying credits is not the same action as moving the weekly reset date.

Grok Usage shows the paid weekly pool and product breakdown; Codex Usage shows the applicable account windows and reset times
A percentage is useful only when you know which meter and product it belongs to.

Does Grok Bot “Reset” restore usage?

Grok Bot is a separate product from Grok on grok.com and the mobile apps. Its access can come through a paid Cursor account or a linked individual SuperGrok account, and its Usage & Billing surface shows weekly and on-demand use when available. If your issue is a Grok Bot allowance, check that product’s billing surface and the account linked to the Bot.

Be careful with the separate Reset action under Settings → Updates, in Grok Bot’s Computer section. xAI says it rebuilds the cloud computer from its last saved snapshot; very recent changes may be lost. It is a recovery step for the Bot’s computer, not a way to refill a Grok.com weekly pool or a Codex allowance. Use the documented recovery order and reserve this operation for a computer that cannot be recovered or updated.

A usage reset refreshes an allowance, while Grok Bot computer Reset restores a saved snapshot and may lose recent unsynced changes
Account allowance and cloud-computer state are different things. Do not use a computer recovery action to solve a usage limit.

What does Codex reset, and when?

OpenAI says Work and Codex share the plan allowance when that shared allowance is available. Depending on the account or workspace, limits can apply over five-hour and weekly windows. If both apply, usage must remain in both. A Codex five-hour window starts with the first Work or Codex message after the previous window ends; it is not necessarily five hours after the moment you hit the limit.

Check Settings → Usage to see which Codex allowance ran out and the reset time attached to your account or workspace. In the CLI, /status provides a local status view. Regular Chat limits are separate from the Work and Codex allowance, so activity or a reset in one Chat surface does not automatically answer what happened to Codex.

Some eligible accounts may also show a saved reset, an automatic event, or a purchased instant reset. Those actions have different rules. A full saved reset refreshes both five-hour and weekly Work/Codex limits and changes the weekly reset date; an automatic reset applies to the limits named in its announcement; an eligible purchased reset applies immediately and starts the next weekly period with the next Work or Codex request. Read the reset label and the account’s own Usage screen before drawing conclusions.

A short check before you wait or reset

  1. Name the product. Is the limit in Grok web/mobile, Grok Bot, or Codex? A Grok Bot computer warning is not a weekly usage limit.
  2. Confirm the signed-in account. Grok Bot can use access linked from Cursor or a SuperGrok subscription. Codex may be attached to a different ChatGPT account or workspace.
  3. Open the matching usage page. Grok web/mobile: Settings → Usage. Grok Bot: Usage & Billing or the account surface shown for your plan. Codex: ChatGPT Settings → Usage, or CLI /status.
  4. Read the meter name, product breakdown and reset date. Grok’s shared weekly percentage and its separate free Chat/Voice limits are not one clock. Codex’s five-hour and weekly windows may be separate constraints on one shared allowance.
  5. Choose only the action attached to that meter. Credits add a balance for eligible use; a provider reset refreshes named usage; Grok Bot computer Reset restores a saved environment snapshot.
Useful rule: if the status page does not name the account, product and limit, do not infer a reset date from a public post or a different app’s timer.

Grok reset and Codex reset questions

Does paid Grok reset every day?

xAI currently documents a weekly included pool for paid Grok plans. Check Settings → Usage for the schedule on your signed-in account; the official help page does not give one universal clock time.

Why can Grok Chat work after my weekly limit is used?

xAI says free-tier Chat and Voice limits are separate from the paid weekly usage pool and follow their own schedules. Read the label in Usage before assuming the paid pool reset early.

Where do I see the next Codex reset?

Open Settings → Usage on the account or workspace you use with Codex. In an active Codex CLI session, /status can show status. The exact window depends on the account’s plan.

Can a Grok reset restore my Codex allowance?

No. Grok and OpenAI usage are separate. A Grok account refresh, Grok Extra Usage Credits, or a Grok Bot computer recovery does not refill Codex.

Does Grok Bot computer Reset give me more Grok usage?

No. It rebuilds the cloud computer from a saved snapshot and may discard recent changes. Check Usage & Billing for account usage; follow the recovery steps before using computer Reset.
